This is a great local dine-in or take-out restaurant with a very casual family atmosphere. The menu features seafood including steamer pots, blue crabs, crab legs, shrimp, scallops, clams, mussels, oysters, and fresh fish, and all kinds of BBQ including North Carolina pulled pork, beef brisket, smoked ribs and chicken. They also offer homemade soups, Southern-style sides and desserts. Open daily for lunch and dinner, April through October.

The Fin & Claw Sea Grill specializes in the fresh seafood, fresh-baked breads and desserts. The menu is seasonally inspired with nightly selections of seafood, beef, chicken and pork. Their food philosophy is based on local ingredients and they work closely with local purveyors to ensure their meat, fish and produce are of the highest standard. The setting is comfortable and casual. They are open for dinner nightly and offer a very good affordable wine list and full bar. Reservations are accepted.

Mike Dianna’s Grill Room has become a legendary Outer Banks restaurant. Fine dining with a casual atmosphere, it is most well known for its excellently prepared meats — offering all-natural and USDA Prime beef, lamb, chicken and veal — cooked over a hardwood grill. The fresh, local seafood is treated just as beautifully, and there are daily pasta specials. The distinctive wine selection has won Wine Spectator’s Award of Excellence for the past five years. They have an outdoor deck and bar with live music Monday through Friday in season. From Memorial Day through Labor Day they serve lunch outside on the deck daily, starting at noon. The restaurant opens for dinner at 5 p.m.; reservations are recommended. Most nights they serve beverages until midnight. They are kid friendly and offer a kids’ menu. Mike Dianna’s Grill Room can accommodate rehearsal dinners, small intimate weddings and other family gatherings.

North Banks, in the west building of TimBuck II, is casual, contemporary and high-energy. Filet mignon and lobster are the house specialties. They also have several preparations of local fish every night and a raw bar offering up the freshest local delicacies. It’s open for lunch and dinner and has a fully stocked bar featuring specialty drinks including their house special flaming martini. Take-out is available.

North Beach Movie Diner is your one-stop source for a meal and a movie. The only theater on the Currituck Outer Banks, North Beach Movie Diner is open year round and located near the Food Lion in Monteray Shores Plaza. The theater shows all first run movies on its three state-of-the-art movie screens, each featuring digital projection and Dolby 7.1 digital sound. Movie tickets are $11.50/adult and $9/youth (age 10 and younger).
The Diner features a variety of options for breakfast, lunch and dinner. At breakfast adults can choose from a breakfast platter of two eggs, home fries, toast and a choice of bacon or sausage, select a Belgian waffle with a choice of bacon or sausage, or start the day with a breakfast sandwich. Kids will be happy with the kids waffle or kids egg breakfast. The Movie Diner’s appetizers include onion rings and fries, chili cheese fries, nachos, jalapeno poppers, hush puppies and more, while barbecue, sandwiches, burgers, rib-eye steaks and shrimp or chicken tender baskets satisfy bigger appetites. The Diner’s full ABC license means all your favorite cocktails are only a few splashes, stirs or shakes away! The beer selection includes most of the popular domestics, a nice selection of imports as well as a couple of beers from North Carolina-based microbreweries.
What if you’re looking for The Game instead of a movie? The Diner is still the place to go for all your favorite sporting events. Decked out with multiple 60-inch TVs and DirectTV Sports Pack, the North Beach Movie Diner has you covered! They even have pool tables where you can test your eight ball skills.
Theme nights include Teen Night (on Fridays from 9 p.m. to 12 a.m. featuring karaoke, live music, snacks and more) and Dance Party Night (dance to one of the best sound and light systems on the Outer Banks Wednesday from 10 p.m. to 2 a.m.). They even offer a Check-in Party every Saturday from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m. where you can watch a movie or sporting event, play arcade games, calm those hunger pangs or sip an icy beverage, all in air-conditioned comfort while awaiting access to your beach rental.

Outer Banks Restaurant Tours offers walking and driving tours to some of the finest restaurants in the Outer Banks. These tours offer participants a one-of-a-kind opportunity to meet restauranteurs and chefs, to learn about what makes each restaurant unique and to taste signature dishes paired with a sampling of wine or beer. Each tour is comprised of three or more restaurants that are in close geographic proximity to each other. Most of their tours are walking tours, but for others the participants will be transported from restaurant to restaurant.Tours run from early May through mid-October, and prices range from $55 to $65 per person. So, for the price of a dinner at one restaurant you have the opportunity to sample the offerings at several unique dining spots…and, they have the best tables in the house at every one of them! Route 12 has a casual atmosphere that’s appealing for the whole family. You can get fresh seafood, choice grade beef, duck, pasta dishes and ribs. A few of their must try selections are the crab bisque and the Ahi tuna pepper filet. Their raw bar is well known for having a good selection of oysters, clams, shrimp, Alaskan crab legs and more. Route 12 is open for lunch and dinner in season, with limited hours and a limited menu in the winter. They feature daily specials and a full ABC license and wine selection. Kids are welcome with a menu of their own. It’s located immediately south of the main Timbuck II complex, next to Brew Thru. Call ahead for reservations, especially in the busy summer months.

For lunch and dinner, this is a great family-friendly restaurant. The grill offers an array of appetizers along with steamed seafood, salads, sandwiches, burgers and full entrees like seafood and ribs. Be sure to check out their new raw bar that features several varieties of oysters and other delicacies, plus they have daily happy hour specials including 50% off crab legs Monday through Friday from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. A children’s menu is available. Looking for a little action in quiet Corolla? Sundogs is the place. They are open until 2 a.m. in the summer season and have live entertainment seven nights a week. Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday it’s live music; Karaoke happens on Monday and Wednesday with kid hours from 9 to 10 p.m.; DJs spin on Friday; and trivia night is Sunday. They also have 12 large flat panel TVs and a huge projection TV for sports, a pool table and a fully stocked bar where you can hang out and shoot the breeze. Located adjacent to the Richard A. Brindley Sports Center in Corolla Light, The Patio Café and The Grass Course offer a variety of options for family dining and outdoor fun that can be enjoyed separately or as a dining/recreation combo by guests of all ages.
Open for breakfast, lunch and dinner, The Patio Café entices you with casual outdoor dining under the cooling shade of thatched umbrellas. The varied menu ranges from breakfast staples such as eggs, home fries, bacon, sausage, toast and waffles to salads and a selection of popular appetizers including onion rings, nachos, jalapeno poppers, mozzarella sticks, BLTs and more. Shrimp and crab legs are available from the steamer. Sandwich selections run the gamut from hot dogs, hamburgers and barbecue to shrimp po’ boys, grilled chicken and steak and cheese with grilled onion, lettuce and tomato. Entrée choices include rib-eye steak served with freshly cut and hand-battered onion rings, marinated chicken breast with sautéed veggies and more. A selection of beers, wines and ice cold beverages rounds out the menu. With its relaxed atmosphere and live music on select nights, The Patio Café offers a welcome alternative to the noisy, overly air-conditioned conditions typical of many resort area restaurants. The Grass Course features 20 holes on a scenic, soundside, all-natural grass mini-golf course. But this is no putt-putt course — you’ll find no windmills on this rolling, curving course! Lighted for evening and nighttime play, these greens promise fun for the whole family, and both novices and serious golfers alike will find that the course offers a challenge or two. The Grass Course is open daily from 8 a.m. to 11 p.m. and offers an abbreviated menu of select food items from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m. Admission is $10/adult and $8/youth aged 10 or younger.

Operating since 1993 with the same Greek family, Tomato Patch offers gourmet pizzas with a variety of standard and more unusual toppings (like salami, gyro meat, caramelized onion or grilled eggplant). The Tomato Patch also serves calzones, classic pasta dishes, garden salads and unbelievable wraps. Try a seafood basket, fish and chips or a po’ boy sandwich. Looking for something different and authentic? They have lots of exciting items to choose from. Order the pastitsio or fish lavraki for a real taste of Greece, or try the Italian-style mussels or Linda’s tasty crabcakes for something more traditional. They’re open for lunch, dinner and even late night. Tuesday nights they do something really fun — it’s Kids’ Night, and the small fries get to make their own pizzas! They have a few tables on their sound-view deck, so get there in time to catch the sunset. They do have a kids menu and welcome the whole family. Metropolis is a great spot for an evening out at the beach if you want something different from a grill and bar atmosphere. This contemporary tapas and martini bar offers an environment as urban and chic as the name suggests. The chef describes the menu as American fusion, and they borrow exotic flavors from around the world. Metropolis has an extensive beer, wine and liquor menu. They serve dinner daily at 5 p.m., and the kitchen is open late in season.

Smokey’s is now located in the Pine Island diner next to the Hampton Inn. They first opened their doors in 1991 and are considered a true Corolla original. This family-style restaurant is sure to please everyone, and their specialties include house-made North Carolina barbecue, Southern fried chicken, barbecued ribs, seafood, burgers and more. A children’s menu is offered. They are open for breakfast, lunch and dinner seven days a week in season and serve beer and wine as well. All items are available for take-out.

Owned and operated by 5th generation Dare county locals, Sooey’s BBQ specializes in authentic eastern North Carolina pork barbecue, slow-smoked ribs, beef brisket, pulled barbecue chicken and Southern fried chicken. Their savory pulled pork BBQ and ribs are made from an Outer Banks recipe with roots that are generations deep. All the favorite homemade sides are here too, including potato salad, cole slaw, baked beans, mac and cheese, corn bread, onion rings and killer hushpuppies. Appetizers, wings, burgers, sandwiches, soups, salads and kids’ favorites are also available. You can sit down and eat in the restaurant, but Sooey’s excels at take-out, prepared family meals and catered events; call ahead for large orders. They also have locations in Duck and Nags Head. With a lively, family-oriented atmosphere, fun, funky decor, and a focus on fresh seafood, Sun Fish Grill is Corolla’s happy seafood shack. The seasoned owners, John and Donna Hugh, know a thing or two about fresh seafood as they also own a successful seafood business in Maine. Johnson & Wales-trained Chef William Auchterlonie whips up just about everything from scratch, and the menu offers something for everyone, from seafood lovers to meat eaters to vegetarians to kids. In addition to fresh and local seafood, they also offer 100% Angus beef, organic chicken, vegetarian and vegan options and a variety of daily specials (never the same one twice!). Favorites on the menu include authentic Maine lobster rolls, fish tacos and she-crab soup. Sun Fish serves lunch and dinner daily starting at 11 a.m. The bar is open for happy hour from 3 to 5 p.m. with new drink specials every day.

Opening early for breakfast and staying open late into the night seven days a week, Uncle Ike’s has it all.
