The Little Light Keeper's House at the Currituck Beach Lighthouse compound is now a museum shop that will delight anyone who loves lighthouses and wild horses. Spry Creek is owned by lifelong Outer Banks resident Karen Whitfield and her husband, John. They have converted her father's old auto repair shop into a quirky, surprising shop. They kept the old bay doors and shop flooring for charm, and be sure to look for Karen's father's work bench, which came out of Penny's Hill Lifesaving Station. In the shop, Karen emphasizes local artwork like jewelry, art glass, handmade soaps and even carved decoys. She has imported linens, handcrafted ceramics from Spain, Portugal and Mexico and Mexican glassware. Spry Creek is named after a deepwater creek just north of the shop where local fishermen used to keep their boats and a couple of local crabbers still do.

After touring the house and grounds, visit the Museum Shop for unique Corolla keepsakes. They offer beautiful books of local interest such as The Whalehead Club; Reflections of Currituck Heritage by Susan Joy Davis and a new coffee table photography book, The Whalehead Club - A Legacy Preserved by acclaimed photographer Mollie Isaacs. The Museum Shop showcases the talents of area artists who create items pertaining to The Whalehead Club (circa 1920s), one of America's most beautiful historic homes (see Attractions). During restoration the copper shingles were replaced and the originals (with a perfect green patina) were placed in the hands of artists who created unique art in jewelry, picture frames, lamps, birdhouses and ornaments. The Museum Shop also offers miniature decoys, clothing, hats, photographs, posters and scented bath salts in honor of Mrs. E. C. Knight, Jr., the original lady of the house, who enjoyed a seawater bath. Help save history: Proceeds from the shop support ongoing preservation of Currituck Heritage Park!
Shopping Near the Old Village Center
The final outpost for shopping comes near the Old Village and offers the last stop for gas and sundries at Winks of Corolla before heading up the beach to four-wheel-drive country. During the season, you may find a vendor selling fresh seafood from the tailgate of a pick-up truck. Savvy off-roaders know there's a free air station behind Winks.

This small stand-alone building is next to the Corolla Post Office. Corolla Outback is the place to book Corolla Outback Adventures horse tours, but it's also a great little shop that sells souvenir clothing and accessories.
Winks of Corolla

Just north of old Corolla village, Winks is a landmark store on the northern beaches. During the fall of 2006, a fire destroyed most of the building that houses Winks and the Post Office, but both are scheduled to reopen in 2007.
Winks sells gas, grocery items, snacks, drinks, ice, beer and wine, toiletries, sundries, local and regional books, beach needs and more. The Corolla Post Office is next door.
