In a restored village home, this is one of those stores that will make you swoon. The interior itself is charming, with old doors, windows and shutters used as display stands and the original beaded board on the walls painted in old-fashioned colors. The floors creak under your feet as you wander around looking at beautiful home and porch décor such as floral and silk flowers, pillows, Guy Wolff pottery, furnishings, frames and so many other wonderful items. Spry Creek is owned by lifelong Outer Banks resident Karen Whitfield and her husband, John. They have converted her father’s old auto repair shop into a surprising home accents shop. They kept the old bay doors and shop flooring for charm, and be sure to look for Karen’s father’s work bench, which came out of Penny’s Hill Lifesaving Station. In the shop, Karen emphasizes local artwork like jewelry, art glass, handmade soaps and even carved decoys. She has imported linens, handcrafted ceramics from Spain, Poland, Portugal and Mexico, as well as Mexican glassware and Polish art glass. Spry Creek is named after a deepwater creek just north of the shop where local fishermen used to keep their boats and a couple of local crabbers still do.
